Denpa Onna 11-12 [FINAL]: MoshiBOREa
July 1, 2011 in Denpa Onna
No matter the outcome, it will still drag absolutely nowhere.
We begin with Makoto tossing about in his bed with nothing to do when he meets up to hang out with Maekawa and play Mario Kart. Luckily for Maekawa, this is her chance to get back in the game as she wants him to come again alone
Ryuushi calls about the basketball game again, while Erio begs Makoto to feed into her addiction of looking out into the stars and wishing she were an alien.
The next day, they (and Index) go to the basketball game, where Ryuushi is having a hard time in her first game. She’s about to do a free throw but doesn’t want to pull a Shaq and miss it repeatedly, so Index tells Makoto to use his ESP.
His ESP is apparently channeling Rob Schneider from Waterboy and talking about how he fucked up when he was playing soccer as a kid (something that Makoto keeps mentioning in these two episodes), which is the right amount of BS to make the shot.
In the next episode, it’s baseball time, as Maekawa gets ready for her major game against her rival team lead by Kana Hanazawa. However, they lose a pitcher when Maekawa’s dad flees out of fear of her daughter being tainted by the other boys. Mihashi is asked to fill in, but he lacks the confidence & Abe’s touch to go up on the mound.
However, Meme pops in at the right time in some awkward Deus Ex Machina to make things uncomfortable for the players while Makoto goes to find Maekawa’s dad.
In a desperate attempt to escape from Makoto, Maekawa’s dad runs to the same bridge that Riku fell off off when he met Nino, but they both get tired, and give up as Maekawa’s dad faces his fears and pitches again.
Makoto is asked to pinch hit against Kana Hanazawa, and has a whole panic attack where he thinks that if he fucks up this one specific run at bat, his life is over and he will never live it down, just like that random soccer team he talked about in the last episode. However, he hits it out of the park.
The season ends with Meme finally giving Makoto that big kiss that she’s always hinting at, and everyone is giggly & happy and all that gooey shit.
To pretty much sum up this anime, I have to lift a screencap from its final episode.
When we first started, we had a clear goal: integrate Erio back into the real world while living the highschool life. They pretty much only got that last one right, and rather than going with Erio’s side of the story, they decide that having her work at grandma’s shop is good enough for her as she remains socially awkward and is still fascinated with being an alien. This probably wouldn’t have been as big of a problem if that integration happened at the last few episodes, but instead they rush out Erio’s drama so that the show could focus more on Ryuushi being an insufferable moeblob who just hates Erio because she’s weird & thinks that incest is ordinary enough to happen between Erio and her beloved Makoto, Maekawa who the show should’ve focused on outside of her sports and outside of her silly cosplay and more as the only mature and level-headed girl on the show, and the character they just popped out of their ass Index who offers little to nothing to the show.
Meme is one of the show’s saving graces but even she can get overwrapped in the moe and she’s cast aside for the 2nd half of the show. And speaking of the 2nd half of the show, it was not a wise decision to end the television run with meaningless sports episodes with barely any closure or development (I’m aware of the 13th episode was unaired due to the quake & that one was probably the festival they were all hinting at, so I’m willing to brush that aside). There’s also news that it could get a 2nd season if more DVDs get sold (which will no doubt happen with the 13th episode as DVD only) but on the offchance that a 2nd season does come out, I don’t think I could blog it, because I just couldn’t enjoy this show. My apologies if you like this show and are unfavorable towards my disdain about it, but I was let down by the direction the show went. Might as well end the series with some saucy pics
