Nisemonogatari 6-7: Hangin’ Out With the Family
February 21, 2012 in Niseimonogatari
This week, I take a look at the two episodes that conclude the Karen Bee arc as Araragi and Senjougahara get prepared to go face-to-face with Kaiki. However, when Karen wants to confront him once again, will Arararagi be able to hold her back in favor of a more diplomatic solution to their problem, or will this end in hot nasty violence? Open up and feast your eyes on the awesome screencaps I got.
We start off with Araragi heading to Senjougahara’s house when all of the sudden, Hachikuji is just around the corner. He tries to go in for the kill, but instead he decides to mellow down and just go for a pat on the shoulder rather than anal devastation like usual.
As predicted, Hachikuji is upset by this as she prepared her anus and was even giving him leeway so that he could grab her in a more efficient manner. Alas, this did not happen, as the two ponder about how long she might be able to stay around and if she’ll be able to grow up even as a spirit.
When Araragi does get to Senjougahara’s house, she is very hostile and is planning to kill Kaiki herself. She attributes this as she had previously made her life hell, caused her parents to break up, and gave her the crab oddity, solidifying his place in her mind as a cheap con artist.
However, Araragi says that he wants to go with her because he needs to solve his own problem with Karen’s bee oddity. At first, Senjougahara is very pissed at this prospect but after Arararararararagi brings his desire to help his sister into the mix, she is rather touched that he would do something for his sis.
Araragi seems all revved up to plan for the meeting, Tsukihi is distraught as Karen has ran away from home so that she herself could take on Kaiki and kill him with violence.
In the episode afterwards, he in fact does find that Karen is near an empty highway where she plans to get ready to confront Kaiki. Araragi will have none of that as he should be the one that faces Kaiki, so rather than saving her energy for fighting the conman, Karen fights Araragi instead.
Luckily, Shinobu is able to appear to give him moral support and motivate him by promising that she’ll let him touch her breasts eventually. With this, Araragi endures alot of pain (not so much as getting swung by his intestines by Kanbaru, but he did destroy an overpass with his body) until he is able to get through to Karen about wanting to protect her. Karen responds by wanting his loving in that alley where Kyouko fought Sayaka.
When he and Senjougahara meet up with Kaiki, the two decide they want Kaiki to leave town so that he no longer antagonizes kids in the area. However, Kaiki spends most of the time lying about everything he says.
Senjougahara won’t have it as she smashes his phone and demands him to leave the city & stop tricking dumb kids into buying curses. Kaiki seems to be backing off though as he is the most boring antagonist in the world and just feels like he’d be better off leaving as he only really cares about making money and doesn’t need to be anywhere where money can’t be made. Also, that the Bee oddity is such a minor oddity that a few days of sleep should do the trick in curing it.
Kaiki, however, wants to get the last word as he brings up the dude who tried to rape Senjougahara that may or may not be dead due to Kaiki’s habitual lying and brings up a factoid about Senjougahara once loving Kaiki. This stirs Araragi’s thoughts as this could only mean one thing…

Deishuu Kaiki is actually Gideon Gordon Graves. This actually makes more sense knowing that Senjougahara was once bifurious with Kanbaru
Senjougahara actually explains to Araragi that she didn’t love him, but at the time, she would become attached to anyone that paid attention to her and had Araragi not been there, she’d probably be with another guy. She says that is very lucky to have Arararagi as a boyfriend though as she wants him now and tonight.
Fortunately, we do conclude the arc by seeing two people that we really want to see sleeping with each other naked sleeping with each other naked: Karen and Tsukihi!
Overall, the Karen Bee arc was ok. The beginning was mostly shipteasing when there’s no use as we all know that Senjougahara is Araragi’s #1, the middle was where it was getting exciting with Shinobu returning to fill in on the oddity and we learned somewhat about the person who’s dealing the oddities, and the ending was just an anticlimactic face off that was over and done with rather quickly than what I’d imagine a face off between Senjougahara and Kaiki would be given their history. I also strongly believe that Kaiki is a dreadfully boring antagonist with his only motivation being money. There’s barely anything hinting that he enjoys what he does and rather than expressing any delight over screwing kids out of their money, he keeps the same deadpan face with the same deadpan voice and continues to emphasize his position as nothing more than just a very lucky con man who lies a lot, and if it’s revealed that Kaiki is really Aizen this whole time, I wouldn’t be surprised one bit as his habitual lying is only setting him up to probably be much bigger than he lets on. Either that, or he’s just really good at talking and the way NisiOisin stories are made, the mouth is mightier than the sword. Hoping that Tsukihi Phoenix will be able to outdo this one.

I’m not even watching this show, but I totally noticed that Birdemic reference you threw in and just had to comment. Nice one!
Honestly 7 episode with out even a fight with the bad guy.
