Hyouka – 03
#3: Inheritors of the Classics Club and Its Circumstances
This week on Hyouka, mysteries are solved while new ones are just beginning. The niece of time? I’m beginning to think more and more like that’s Chitanda. No, if fact, I’m sure of it! Also this week, is one of the coolest scenes yet. Do not underestimate our main character; he’s a force to be reckoned with.
It’s not so much a confession, as it is a request. Chitanda asks Oreki to help her remember what her uncle told her. An impossible ‘request’, but he can assist her with clues. Anyway, this whole opening scene made me think of some possibilities, such as, Chitanda’s uncle having been in the Classics Club, but no teachers would have remembered what happened when he attended the school 45 years ago. I’m wondering if he has something to do with the mystery, and just why the series is called ‘Hyouka’ to begin with. Not a lot happens outside of this scene, aside from some cool development in our main characters. Oreki says he can help her with the clues but not with such a personal issue. We can see, however, that Chitanda still may have a thing for Oreki. It kinda jumped out at me, despite this not being an actual confession. It’s just there. Next, it’s back to school for some P4A-style midterms, in that it’s a montage of the students testing. The Classics Club, and all other clubs aren’t doing anything during midterms, but for our Classics Club, not much has changed. That is, until Oreki receives a letter from his sister telling him where the anthology back issues are. Will this perhaps be the scene where our characters stumble upon Hyouka?
This next scene really proves Oreki’s awesome, and just how much you can learn when you take your time and analyze the situation. Tougaita is the president of the News Poster Club, and he really doesn’t want the Classics trio of Oreki, Chitanda, and the newly inducted Ibara to enter the room. Why? Who knows, but there’s some sensors on the wall. Tougaita’s getting more and more angry as time goes off, but the room was in a strange set up. Regardless, the anthologies don’t seem to be there. Tougaita does his utmost best to get the trio out. Oreki tells him if he finds the anthologies in the medicine safe, that he should brine them to the Classics Club room. He naturally does, and pretty quick to boot. So why was it such an issue? Tougaita’s family is famous in education, so Oreki deduces that he must’ve been smoking in the room. That’s why he had the sensors around, and also why he had the room airing out like that. Where were the cigarettes? Probably in the safe along with the anthologies under the table Tougaita was working on. Absolutely awesome. Scenes like this are what’s making Hyouka my favorite show this season. The way they animated this scene was awesome as well. This episode has had a few of those nice moments where it’s animated differently. Now, onto this last revelation. We finally get a look at Hyouka, it’s the title of the anthologies. And Oreki and Chitanda take a look at issue number two. After raising more questions about her uncle, and the previous year, the club discovers that that issue one is missing. So this is a problem for Chitanda. And, lol, Fukube at the end there.
Show up next week! #4: Past Days of the Classics Club and Its Glory
Just a little note: After much contemplation, I have decided to drop my coverage of Medaka Box due to the insane amount of AP tests and other tests I’ve been having to prep for, for school. I haven’t been able to find the time to even watch most of my shows lately. I’m gonna keep getting Hyouka posts out there as soon as I can, though. So if anyone else on the team wants to take over Medaka, go ahead. I just can’t do two shows right now.
