#9: Murder in the Ghost Town of Furuoka

Junya, Tomohiro, and Misaka introduce themselves to the Classics Club, as they’re all going to try and solve the mystery at hand. The episode continues from last week, and as you know, it’s about them trying to figure out who the culprit behind the death in the movie was. This episode is gonna set up something big, I hope.

My God, this episode was good for screencaps. First up is Junya, who seems to be a dick, so let’s just get this over with. I have to mention the chocolates that Chitanda brought for everyone, they’re a little too strong for the others, but Chitanda keeps downing them. I don’t get why she doesn’t know she’s getting drunk from these, if they even have real alcohol in them. Junya’s theory revolves around drama, and sort of ditches a true mystery for cliches and stuff like that. It’s not a theory that’ll work, as Oreki deduces that the culprit probably would have been seen escaping the window, as the others were covering all the rooms. It would have been too risky, even with Junya’s idea of the grass being cut. So there goes one theory. While they wait for Tomohiro to show up with the next theory, Fukube wonders how much mystery the Classics Club really reads. Turns out, it’s not that much, especially for a club that solves mysteries all the time. But you know, I shouldn’t be surprised. Anyway, the next theory belongs to Tomohiro, the props master. He seems a little too smug…

See, I was right. Total ass. I can’t believe that both people they’ve heard theories from so far have been total asses. But, here we go. Tomohiro criticizes Hongou for being a beginner at mysteries, but presents a good theory himself. The locked room mystery involving the rope may have been what the director was going for, but the Classics Club thinks it’s a little boring. Oreki couldn’t even respond when Tomohiro was asking him questions, and of course, Ibara doesn’t like Tomohiro at all. Let’s hope Misaka is less of an ass. Probably will be, considering her personality, as shown in the beginning of the episode. And naturally, Oreki can blow the window theory Tomohiro made straight out of the water. And another theorist owned. Misaka provides the lamest theory of all. Pretty much a specter or vengeful ghost. That’s, you know, cliche, but I would expect nothing less from someone who first refers to 80s slasher movies to get her point across. I think the best part about her theory, was that the killer’s mask looked kinda like Hei’s from Darker than BLACK. Aside from that, she totally ditches the locked room and provides an easy way out: a spirit or ghost passing through it. Just no. As for Chitanda? Drunk off her ass, and out of it. That was pretty funny. Looks like Oreki was actually a fan of Misaka’s theory… strange, but he denied it because Hongou had only asked for a small amount of blood. It’s pretty clear that this isn’t a straight up horror movie. At the end there, Oreki is a little surprised. Irisu wants to have some tea with him.

Next episode, In Everyone’s Blind Spot – Making a prediction for next week, myself…
