Martin-sensei’s Guide to Love: Sakamichi no Apollon episode 10

June 15, 2012 in Currently Blogging Anime, Sakamichi no Apollon/Kids on the Slope

In this episode of Yu Yu Hakusho, Yusuke has to help Kuwabara pass a science test so Kuwabara’s friend can keep his after school job because the teachers at this school are dickheads.
At least, that’s what this episode reminded me of.
Martinman: Alright, so this episode…
Martinman: It was nice to see Kaoru actually wearing the gloves.
Ghosty: Yes
Ghosty: It was
Ghosty: Even if it took him a while
Ghosty: A lot of things happened in this one.
Martinman: Yeah, but there was no music, sadly.
Ghosty: Yeah u_u
Ghosty: They used a lot of BGM
Martinman: It was very much a drama episode.
Ghosty: Very
Martinman: But lots of stuff is going to go down.
Martinman: There’s the music festival coming up, and Sentarou’s dad is coming back, or they are leaving to go see him, or something.
Ghosty: And then Sentarou runs away, and also he passed his test.
Ghosty: Not to mention a hot bath scene.

Not gonna lie, he looks pretty hot right here.

Martinman: The Fujoshi was strong with this episode.
Ghosty: Very
Martinman: That bath part must have been massively awkward though.
Ghosty: Oh yeah.
Ghosty: I’ve been seeing a lot of BL fangirls screaming
Ghosty: just because Kaoru said one thing
Martinman: It makes you wonder how often that kind of accident happens with Sentarou and Ritsuko.
Ghosty: Oh man
Ghosty: Then again, Sentarou looks different from his sister, so I guess it’s easier to tell through the glass
Martinman: Yeah.
Martinman: So…the title of this episode was ‘In a Sentimental Mood’.
Martinman: Here’s a YouTube link of John Coltrane playing the song.
Ghosty: I like the piano
Ghosty: Sounds like something similar to the OST
Martinman: This is probably my favorite ballad ever.
Ghosty: It’s nice.
Ghosty: I thought Matsuoka would be an okay guy after the festival
Ghosty: but no.
Ghosty: Still a dickhead faggot.
Martinman: Dude is derpy as ever.
Martinman: I want to know who he got to be his drummer.
Martinman: Because there is no way Sentarou is gonna do it.
Ghosty: yeah
Ghosty: probably some second rate drummer
Martinman: I forget, did he have a drummer at his party in the last episode?
Ghosty: uhhh no
Ghosty: the girls improvised.
Martinman: ah
Ghosty: Yeah
Ghosty: but
Ghosty: honestly
Ghosty: I don’t see why he should care
Ghosty: As far as I know, Sentarou and Kaoru do this for fun because they love it. Not because they want to become stars
Ghosty: You don’t mess with friendship!
(This is the part where Martinman got a little weird.)
Martinman: Friendship is Magic!
Martinman: My little pony….I used to wonder what friendship could be
Martinman: My little pony…until you all shared it’s magic with me
Martinman: Big adventure, tons of fun
Martinman: a beautiful heart faithful and strong
Martinman: my little pony
Martinman: you are my very best friend…..
Ghosty: I’m sitting here wondering what ponies they would be, and I can’t even come up with anything.
Martinman: I think that third line is wrong
Martinman: Kaoru = Twilight Sparkle
Ghosty: eh, it’s a little off but no big
Martinman: Sentarou = Rainbow Dash
Ghosty: Ritsuko = Rarity if only for the knitting aspect
Martinman: What else is there to talk about?
Martinman: Dat painting
Martinman: It actually won some kind of award.
Ghosty: Yeah, I was impressed
Martinman: I was shocked.
Ghosty: I guess they really liked it
Martinman: Indeed.
Ghosty: So I have a feeling this will be an anime only ending.
Ghosty: I tried reading ahead in the manga, but it was an entirely different story, so I stopped before I could get spoiled
Ghosty: Unless Sentarou leaves later in the manga.
Martinman: Interesting. It was confirmed for 12 episodes, right? MAL doesn’t have it listed yet.
Ghosty: I think MAL has the wrong airing date too
Ghosty: ANN confirmed it for 12 episodes
Martinman: Hmm….there’s a lot of stuff that could happen (and needs to) in only two episodes.
Ghosty: Yeah
Martinman: Hopefully they can tie everything up nicely, or at least confirm season 2.
Ghosty: I doubt there will be a season 2
Ghosty: but I can see things being wrapped up.
Martinman: That’s good at least.
Ghosty: By the way
Ghosty: Have your feelings on the OP changed at all?
Martinman: I haven’t listened to it.
Martinman: I tend to skip OPs.
Ghosty: Oh
Ghosty: I actually like it a lot more since they started subbing the lyrics
Martinman: Cool.
Ghosty: The full version is nice too
Ghosty: oh look what I found
Martinman: I hate you.
Ghosty: <3
Martinman: Uguu
Ghosty: Speaking of that painting
Ghosty: It really shows how Kaoru underestimates Sentarou at times
Ghosty: Where he feels the need to do damage control every time
Martinman: I couldn’t blame him for what he did in that last scene too. I would have guessed that Sentarou would have acted out a bit more.
Ghosty: Yeah.
Ghosty: Considering in the manga, Sentarou was punching people who were spreading things about Yurika.
Ghosty: I guess this is also a bit of growing up on his part too.
Ghosty: Speaking of which, Kaoru is some kind of romantic, if not a bit stupid.
Martinman: He’s pretty stupid. Either that, or maybe he just has no idea how to act around people/girls since he’s been a social outcast most of his life.
Ghosty: True
Ghosty: But I have to hand it to him
Ghosty: That was pretty sweet
Ghosty: I’m glad he doesn’t give a fuck about what his family thinks.
Martinman: His family is pretty terrible, so I can’t blame him.
Ghosty: Yeah
Ghosty: I can’t help but think his cousin might be somewhat decent if she got more character development
Ghosty: Also, who the hell opens the window when it’s cold outside and your nephew is sick?
Martinman: Stupid people.
Ghosty: Sigh.
Ghosty: Wanna talk about manga stuff?
Martinman: I have not read the manga, but you are welcome to put in whatever you want.
Ghosty: Whoo!
Ghosty: You know that scene where they talk about what they want to do after school?
Ghosty: Apparently Kaoru mentions wanting to go to med school but he is undecided on what to do after,
Martinman: Usually you go to med school to be a doctor.
Martinman: Heck, he could major in music and biology and then go to med school.
Ghosty: Musical Doctor
Ghosty: Also, Sentarou barely passed his supplementary exam
Ghosty: Thanks to the stuff he memorized
Ghosty: but the teacher was so happy for him, he decided to let it slide.
Martinman: Nice.
Ghosty: That’s probably about it.
Ghosty: So
Ghosty: I’m so glad that all the misunderstandings are out of the way
Martinman: Yeah.
Ghosty: I just noticed Sentarou’s got a record in his room that we’ve never seen in the show.
Martinman: The Horace Silver one?
Martinman: I didn’t recognize the cover.
Ghosty: I’ve never heard of him, actually.
Martinman: ….
Martinman: :(
Martinman: I have obviously not done my job.
Ghosty: Wait, did you talk about him before?
Ghosty: I’m bad with names! ;_;
Martinman: Pretty sure I linked this before:
Martinman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWeXOm49kE0
Ghosty: Oh yeah!
Ghosty: That was a few entries ago.
Ghosty: My bad <_<
Martinman: LOL
Ghosty: I think there were some tracks in this episode that weren’t on the OST
Ghosty: either that, or I completely overlooked them.
Martinman: It’s possible. I haven’t listened to the OST enough to know everything on it.
Ghosty: I like listening to it in the car.
Martinman: I have a cassette player in my vehicle, so no digital stuff for me.
Ghosty: You don’t have one of those cassettes that hook up to iPods and cd players?
Martinman: I do, but I don’t have a CD player or iPod that doesn’t run on batteries and I don’t like to waste batteries
Ghosty: Do you have an mp3 player?
Martinman: Yes, but it takes AAA batteries.
Ghosty: O_o
Ghosty: You should get yourself an iPod
Ghosty: or something
Ghosty: Zune or whatever
Martinman: TBH, I’d probably never use it.
Ghosty: Are you too old-fashioned? :P
Martinman: Yes.
Martinman: Yes I am.
Martinman: Anything else we need to cover?
Ghosty: Gimme a sec
Ghosty: Should we cover daddy issues a little?
Martinman: Maybe we should wait until next week so we can see what exactly Sentarou’s dad is like?
Ghosty: Yeah
Ghosty: I feel for Sachiko though.
Martinman: Yeah, it’s got to be awful.
Martinman: Sentarou’s lucky in that he’s a guy and could probably take care of himself at this point if dad went crazy.
Ghosty: Yeah
Martinman: But none of the other kids would be able to.
Ghosty: Alcoholic parents are scary.
Ghosty: But if he’s quit drinking, then maybe it won’t be so bad.
Ghosty: Too bad Sentarou already plans to leave. ;_;
Martinman: Yeah. Hopefully the “I quit drinking” thing is for real, and not a load of bull.
Ghosty: Yeah.
Ghosty: I don’t think they’d want to give all the kids sad endings though.
Ghosty: You know, I thought Sentarou had his own room
Ghosty: but I guess he shares it with his siblings
Martinman: It would make sense. His house probably only has like….4 rooms in it. If that.
Ghosty: Yeah
Ghosty: I’m sure Sachiko and the other girl have their own room or something?
Ghosty: I didn’t really look too closely.
Martinman: It’s probably boys in one room and girls in another.
Ghosty: I hope Sarah Vaughn will be alright by herself too.
Martinman: I doubt it. :(
Martinman: Domesticated animals usually fare pretty poorly in the wild.
Ghosty: True.
Ghosty: Well I guess that’s it.
Ghosty: Although, it may be a bit too late, but I’m starting to appreciate the ending theme.
Martinman: Better late than never, I guess.
Martinman: I haven’t listened to it in a while.
Ghosty: The lyrics really describe the feeling of the show well
Ghosty: not to mention the animation is pretty
Ghosty: Normally, I skip it to watch the next episode of Tsuritama.
