Devil Survivor 2 Musings (Split into six pages because I went overboard.)

Yeaaaaaaaaaaah, remember how I’d go on and ON about Devil Survivor 2 whenever I did weaboo-ize me. This game came here to the US back in February, and i at that time, i was already considering playing the first Devil Survivor game. But when i heard that this one was way better, then i thought, “WHY NOT!”
See, the game is actually really fun, but difficult. Well, the first two playthroughs anyway…
Taking place during the course of a single week, this game is about survival in a world that’s practically that’s on it’s last leg. And to think, everything was fine last Sunday.
I will be reviewing this game, and it’ll be a big review, because i have a lot to say about this game and my experience with it. Due to it being so long, the review is split into several pages past this Read-more button.
So, yeaaaaaaah…
During the course of 8 days, you and your friends will battle demons, crazy people and alien ice cream.
Three friends who signed up for the death image site called “Nicaea”, all have their lives changed when a disaster strikes, they’re given access to the summoning app, and have to use demons to defeat other demons and the seven alien invaders called the Septentriones, mysterious invaders, all named after the stars of the Big Dipper, and designed by Mohiro Kitoh, known for his works such as Narutaru and Bokurano. If you’ve seen/read those… you might can guess what he thought up.
Soon after, the protagonist and his friends meet other demon tamers, as well as the mysterious organization called JP’s, who seem to know quite a bit about what’s going on. Truth be told, it’s easy to tie the plot to Neon Genesis Evangelion. Heck, the opening song sounds like something straight out of an 80′s anime.
Devil Survivor mixes RPG with Strategy, meaning that your character placements, the skills you give’em and whom (or what) they engage in a skirmish with is just as important as leveling up and getting stronger.
The game incoporates a lot of features that help you get through the game. Like, the Demon Auction, which allows you to spend the macca earned in battles to buy demons (Which will more likely be used for fusion later on anyway), the Demon Copendium, which is basically a demon archive allowing you to register your customized demons so you can summon them again anytime you want (for the right price of course), and most importantly, the Demon Fusion, which is your major ticket to getting stronger demons and probably the one feature you’ll be using the most of (aside from the Demon Auction).
^^
There’s also the Fate system which allows you to build up your bond with the other characters and unlock resistances for the team, as well as fusable demons. If you want the true ending to the game, you need to build up those fate levels with everyone. What you see above is just an example.
At Fate level 1, the character will develop a resistance to one (or two) of the many affinities in the game (Phys, Electric, Ice, Fire, Force, Curse). Fate Stage 2 allows that character to Joint-skill crack with the MC, which i’ll explain in a bit. The Third and Fifth Fate stages unlock demons that you can create through fusion. The demons in question that will be unlocked for Fusion will probably be real useful, so try to fuse’em when your level is high enough.
Another thing to note are the skills. The only way you’re gonna get skills is by fighting battles and doing a Skill Crack.
By the way, Skill Cracks are the moves you can get from enemies by defeating’em, as long as you set the skill to be cracked. So in other words, if you have a skill to be cracked by the MC, the MC HAS to crack that skill. You can only crack 4 skills at a time since well, you can only have four party members at a time. However, if your teammates are able to do a Joint crack with the MC, that’ll mean that any skills you’ve set to be cracked by that character can be cracked by the MC as well, and vice versa. This makes it much easier to skill crack later on. TRUST ME.
Another thing to note, is that your demons may have Racial Skills (which are like Auto-skills, but exclusive to demons only) that are usable during a battle before a skirmish. You might want to pay attention to those skills. You might find some that’ll be highly useful to you. Like, if you have a Femme class demon, it’ll probably have Devotion, which is a racial skill used to heal your team (for the HP equal to the amount it currently has… say if demon in question uses this skill, and only has like… 100 HP. Whoever gets healed will get 100 HP, as it’ll match up), as well as your other teams on the field since it has a much longer range for healing. But that’s merely an example of what you can use when you’re not in a skirmish. Other Racial skills, affect how you can move on the battlefield, like the Flight and Phantasm skills. Hell, if your Demons level up enough, the racial skills evolve too. But this will be applicable as you fuse Stronger demons later in the game.
But enough about all of those mechanics.
As you can see, I went OVERBOARD with this Devil Survivor 2 thing. You guys really don’t have to read the whole thing since i don’t expect anyone to read something THIS long, But I’ll be proud of you if you did. Seriously.
So the musings are broken up into pages since i made this thing too damn long. I made an Index below.

And so mankind fought against the Edible Extraterrestrials and their Demonic/Angelic minions.
Also interesting tidbit, the abilities or designs of the Septentriones is based on the actual star. The second one Merak releases disk shaped bombs while the real one has debris disk around it. The third one Phecda spins at a great pace so Phecda also spins really fast. The Box Inside A Box is a Binary Star.
I noticed that Fate is like a simpler version of the Social Link system. Except you can only complete some when you go down certain paths like Anguished One’s.
Huh… I didn’t even know that. That’s actually really awesome and gives Kitoh more credibility. WHOOT.
Yeah, but I find that i had to talk to the Anguished one less in order to increase fate with the other Demon tamers, like Ronny and Yamato. I also had to skip all the Dera Deka shit.
There’s a glitch in the game that has Keita’s Fate level up occasionally while doing Yamato’s.
I did Dera-Deka’s events in my first playtrhough at the cost of not leveling up Io’s Fate.
that means you killed Io off then, huh?
No she survived. You just need to have her at Fate 2 and answer with the right choices on the day that Show ▼
.
Oh and I need to say that I liked the first Desu’s story more than the seconds, not to mention Atsubro. But other than that I feel that DeSu 2 beats it in everything else.
Yeah, i know about the whole Angels and Demons thing in the First Devil Survivor game, and Angels being bastards.
This game just featured Heavenly Aliens spawning demons. >_>
And eh… At least Jungo’s the next best thing to a bro. But no one’s a real bro in this game that’ll stick with whatever decision you make in the end. Saddening.
Anguished One supports your decision no matter what. Even the one he hates like Show ▼
. It’s just that he has to be defeated before you can face Poley. -:-
