#12: Practically Piled to the Ceiling

So it’s time for the Kanya Festival, and the Classics Club members have a daunting task ahead of them. Due to the fault of the club, they must sell two hundred copies of their anthology, Hyouka. Will they succeed? Well, let’s find out. We start off with Chitanda walking, and everyone else restless at home.

Now, you’ll notice that Oreki’s sister, Tomoe is back. She actually got back in the OVA episode, 11.5, which premiered online yesterday. I would have posted an entry on it, but the quality was horrible, and the advertisement stayed on the official stream for the duration of the episode. However, you guys should check it out, because it was a great episode that featured the Classics Club at the pool, while Oreki was more or less a lifeguard. It was a light fanservice episode that really felt like it defined what this series is all about, I’d recommend it. Anyway, let’s get onto this episode.

As I said before, it’s the Kanya Festival time, everyone’s all kinds of excited, aside from Oreki. He’s not. Ibara’s a little flustered, due to there being 200 copies of Hyouka to sell at the festival as opposed to the original idea of selling 30 copies. With this challenge, the club needs to come up with some way to sell them. Everyone’s got their parts, and Oreki is going to hold the fort. Also, I’d like to take a moment to mention Fukube, who’s sporting a planet head and galaxy costume this week. I think he’s trying to be Lady Gaga or something. A planet. I laughed when he ran to the room and his his head and he was like “Oh! My Saturn!” Sad face. Anyway, the challenge is set, and the members of the club all have a different task, so let the games begin.

The opening remark leads to some dancing, and Chitanda needs to get out of there to go and find Tanabe to ask for a different place for the club to sell their anthology. She doesn’t end up getting it, but she’s able to ask if other clubs want to sell them, and she gets really distracted before asking Tanabe, with things like calligraphy. Meanwhile, Fukube, unreliable as ever, is busting a gut watching a comedy routine in the room where the opening ceremony was. Ibara goes to the manga lab so they can start selling as well, and it looks like some of the girls have a Vocaloid group going. I was like “oh damn, Miku!” and smiled. Ibara seems a little skittish at first, but slowly warms up to everything. Oreki’s just sitting there with no costumers for Hyouka, and he watches people out of the window, but a guy dressed as a rocker comes in and picks up an issue, and Oreki gives him the pen Tomoe gave him. In exchange, the rocker gives him the winning number to their show. Meanwhile, Chitanda is getting distracted by everything. The chaos has begun. Oh hey, check out the awesome new ED. Definitely fits the series.
