Hyouka – 13
#13: Dead at Dusk
This week on Hyouka, the craziness of the Kanya Festival continues. Let’s kick this second half of the series off with a new, and better OP. It’s definitely the better of the OPs, couple it with the new ED from last week, and now Hyouka has some good songs going for it, aside from the OST from the show. Now, for the episode.
Well, this episode is certainly zany. We’ve got Fukube participating in a quiz game alongside one-sided rival, Tani of the Go Club. He’s really also promoting the Hyouka anthology, which is still not selling to anyone at all, really. I’d also like to point out that the quiz game announcer chick had me laughing. She was a little too excited when someone got the answer right. Chitanda, elsewhere, was trying to find ways to promote the Classics Club herself. Tougaito’s of no help, as he apparently quit the news club. I think he’s just a little bitter around the Classics Club, though. We all know what happened about ten episodes back. Chitanda stumbles upon a friend of hers who’s doing fortune telling, but informs Chitanda that the Wheel of Fortune card was missing from her tarot deck. Tani tells Fukube that some Go stones were missing from their club as well. Obviously, something’s up. Some thievery, but it appears that the items will be returned. Now, we have Oreki, selling a second copy of Hyouka. The customer’s fly is down, so Oreki gives him the safety pin from the back of the winning number for the fashion show for him to use to replace the broken zip. In return, he gives Oreki, a water gun that’s a little too realistic for what it is.
Ibara argues with that one chick from her club over why some manga is really great and about reviews and stuff. Sure, it’s a little petty on both ends, but at least Ibara is the type of person who would stand up for what she thinks is right, and that’s what makes her a great character. And hey, the argument even brings in a lot of customers to buy the Manga Lab’s anthology. All this time I’ve been watching this, and I really wish my school did something like this. Hell, I’m not even in any clubs at my school. Put forth: Why is my school not as awesome as this one is? Anyway, Oreki’s been looking at Chitanda’s pictures, without her knowing. Suspicious behavior, there. After the day’s over, everyone’s all a little tired, and Fukube’s in shambles because the cooking contest the next day is for teams of three. However, he doesn’t feel bad for long, as he asks is Chitanda and Ibara will join it as his two teammates. That should be pretty great to watch. We know Chitanda cooks well, as evidenced before, so don’t expect any Persona 4 level comedy, unless, of course, Ibara can’t cook, but that’s next week. Chitanda gets that Oreki was probably looking the pictures over. Ibara can’t seem to find the Dead at Dusk manga she liked so much. Among all of the millions of volumes of manga she has in her room. My God, that’s a lot. So, a quick prediction. Maybe someone will come to buy Hyouka, and they’ll have a stain on their shirt next week. Oreki will use the water gun to shoot it off, they’ll give him something else. Just a prediction, though. And I’m also gonna say that Oreki will probably get more out of this than anyone. It’s gotta happen. This arc certainly has been entertaining so far.
Next week: Wild Fire
Next week’s Hyouka post will be pretty late, I’ll be on a trip out-of-state, so just as a heads up to anyone that possibly reads my Hyouka reviews.
