Kokoro Connect 2: The Cat Returns
July 19, 2012 in Kokoro Connect

Looks like refusing to do band practice with Azu-nyan didn’t pay off for Yui, Mio, Mugi, and Ritsu
In our newest of Kokoro’s connecting, the four are still getting the hang of switching between bodies. However, when a figure named Heartseed comes out and says that they are behind it, will they take kindly to their situation or will they try and get Heartseed to turn back the clock on it?
The beginning scenes of the episode are rather samey as it’s still everyone getting used to changing bodies at random intervals. There is some change-up though as they have to talk with Keiji Fujiwara (aka Gotou) about the council. However, beneath his no-nonsense voice is a lazy ass who ducks out of any responsibilities that he was supposed to take a part in.

“Perhaps my slurps will be loud enough to distract you from your grievances”
There’s some switcharoo stuff going on but for the most part, it’s just established that trying to run to the toilet is odd. Nonetheless, there finally is a sign of repercussions as Iori confronts Taichi for fondling her breasts in front of Fujishima.

“That’s something between me and Fujishima
“
For the most part, their meeting in the clubroom is just breast-talk for those who get hot & bothered knowing their waifu as A/B cups, but the real meat of the scene comes from Gotou wandering in after overhearing about the body switching. However, Gotou is being possessed by some spirit named Heartseed who got bored with terrorizing the Care Bears and decided to have this group of friends switch bodies because they looked interesting. They want to know how to reverse the curse, but Heartseed wants to be a dick and hits the girls as he makes his escape.

But we all know where he’s peeking at
The friends assess the situation and talk about setting the ground rules when it comes down to interacting in another person’s body, which gives Kiriyama some time to develop as a character, and by develop, I mean yell at everyone when mentioning the possibility of fighting off creepers and overreacting when Iori wants to hug in Yoshifumi’s body. Speaking of Iori, she does get to have a philosophical heart-to-heart with Taichi on the subway platform.

“First and foremost, how did Fujishima taste?”
The next day, Gotou wants to be a lazy ass again so Fujishima needs to pick up trash in the community for volunteering and needs 2 others to join her. When Inaba manages to submit herself as Tribute, Taichi decides to go along with in order to spare Iori from facing Fujishima. When Fujishima questions Taichi on his relationship with Iori during this trash crusade, the episode ends as he declares that Iori is his.

And then World War III began
Overall, I’d say that it was great to have more input on what would be causing the friends to switch bodies. While Heartseed seems like a massive derp who just did it because he was bored and they looked interesting, I guess any explanation would be better than no explanation. I also like how they are trying to plan ahead and avoid any worst case scenarios from happening when they are in each other’s bodies like going to the bathroom or flirting with those with the hardest crushes on you. The characters are still kinda average but we’ve got a whole season to let them grow and I’ve got a feeling that it’s the type of show that thrives on letting the friends’ growing relationship be the glue that holds them together.

its definitely going to be interesting to see how all of them will hold up with the body/mind switch mentally and physically.
also just saw episode 3, things are definitely turning up a notch on how each character will hold up their sanity and an unexpected source of help from wrestling geek MC.
