DarkKingSilvers’ Final Post About Everything and Nothing
It has been a while since I’ve posted anything here on CSW, and I truly owe Jubbz quite an apology for that. I have been occupied quite a bit this summer, but I could have posted about something in that time, so I’m going to make up for lost time now! Get your tl;dr’s ready because this is going to be one long rambling session! Ready set go!
I suppose the first thing I need to get out of the way is that I will be unofficially retiring from both the CSW Blogging Crew as of August 13th, 2012 and from the [adult swim] message boards. I still love watching anime (even if I am horribly behind on everything right now, One Piece included) and I would love to continue contributing to this blog, but certain upcoming events in my life are not going to allow me to do that. In a few short days I will begin attending George Mason University Law School as I take my first steps towards lawyerhood. Law school is going to be a full-time commitment and I will lack the time to watch anime, let alone post about it here or discuss on the boards about whatever is airing. I do hope that if I have a decent break down the line, I’ll sign back on here and write up a post discussing E7AO and how it concludes and maybe other arbitrary musings, but unfortunately I’m not going to make any promises I know I can’t keep.
I owe a lot of thanks to many of our crew including Splitter (ret.), Megs, cidz, Chaps, Ghost, Martin, everyone else, and above all Jubbz. He’s been a great guy and keeps this ship sailing quite well. I’m overjoyed that a few of my ideas were incorporated into CSW and I hope they continue to evolve and make this site even greater and greater to accomplish our end-all goal of being the best anime site ever…or world domination. Whichever comes first.
Thanks to Megs for co-blogging Shana with Jubbz and I, and for his insight into Japan’s anime DVD/Blu sales which have been fascinating reads. I urge anyone who hasn’t read them to check them out immediately.
Ghost and Martin, you are both great bloggers and your co-blogging of Sakamichi no Apollon was top-notch and super entertaining to read. I hope you guys decide to co-blog again and I can’t wait to see what you both will write about in the future.
Cidz, Chaps, you are both great guys and it has been a blast knowing you both and co-blogging Kuroko no Basket for the past few months. It has been a lot of fun and I’m going to try my best to find time and finish Kuroko with you guys. Reading your guys (especially your really insane blogs Chaps, oh god, your insight is ridiculous and hysterical) has been a great way to spend time over the past few years and I hope you both keep up the great work. Same to anyone else on the crew I may be forgetting by name. Sorry!
Above all, I need to give Jubbz my gratitude, love, penis, and praise for running this blog and for giving me the opportunity to share my opinions with you denizens of the interwebs. He’s a great guy and has done a lot for us and for this site to keep it fresh and is always trying to improve. That attitude of constant evolution and the desire for improvement and innovation has meant a lot to me and I hope he continues along that path to make CSW greater and greater.
Early in the summer, a dear friend of mine introduced me to the hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother, and good lord, I now understand why it is such a hit. This show is hilarious with great characters, awesome situations, Neil Patrick Harris, great humor and drama without being too raunchy, but above all it is just so much fun to watch. For those who haven’t seen it, the show revolves around five young adults in NYC, three guys and two girls and the point of view of the show is that it’s told entirely in flashback form from the main guy Ted Mosby towards his children on how he met their mother. There are often references to future and previous episodes that end up creating tons of inside jokes between the episodes that continue throughout the seasons and just add to the humor (the slap bet probably being the best example). There were many nights where I would continue hitting the Next Episode button on Netflix and before I knew it, 5 or more hours had passed. I urge anyone who wants a fun, light show to kill time with to check out How I Met Your Mother and you can find the first 6 seasons on Netflix. Season 7 has finished (and sadly is the weakest of the seasons thus far), and season 8 will begin airing this fall (it has been said Season 8 will be the final season, but we’ll see if the producers keep their word).
Also, Neil Patrick Harris (above) is the greatest thing to hit television until…
Gustavo Fring….err…Breaking Bad
So AMC has had a number of hit television shows on their hands for the past several years. The biggest names thrown around lately are The Walking Dead, Mad Men, and Breaking Bad. Breaking Bad has the insane premise where the main character is a high school chemistry teacher who gets diagnosed with lung cancer and decides to be a drug dealer to make some quick cash for his family before he kicks the bucket. There is all kinds of drama, scheming, action, and is definitely one of the best television shows airing right now and I would greatly recommend everyone watch it.
As for Gustavo Fring, he is quite possibly one of the most badass characters to appear on television in quite a while (Tyrion Lannister aside). Played by Giancarlo Esposito, Gus is very gentleman-like, calm, and an utterly ruthless crime boss who never fails to entertain and has cojones on par with Daryl from The Walking Dead. This man has such balls, he’ll grab a man, rip his throat open with a box cutter over you, and not blink. He’ll walk into gunfire like a BAMF, arms wide like Jesus F-ing Christ and not flinch. He’ll make you a chicken sandwich, and goddammit, it’ll be the best chicken sandwich you ever had in your entire damn life. When he smiles he’s angelic, and when he’s pissed he makes Satan run with his tail between his legs.
For fans who want to watch gritty characters scheme and get into crazy situations, definitely check out Breaking Bad. It’s definitely worth your time.

Hey, Something Anime Related…NOT – Ouran High School Host Club [manga]
Viz finally finished releasing the Ouran manga earlier this summer and all I can say is, WOW, what a perfect ending. Bisco Hatori completely nailed it perfectly and all I can wonder is why Bones or any other company hasn’t bothered to finish animating the series. Another 26-episode season would be perfect to finish up to manga (granted it might be a bit fast if they tried that. The first series only covered 6 of the 18 volumes, but IIRC, there was a good amount of filler stories) and I hope someone eventually finishes the adaptation. The latter half of the manga is more drama-centric than comedy funtime, but the drama is excellently structured, the situations never feel forced, and above all is accompanied with some great character development for the entire cast. Hopefully we’ll get this continuation eventually (same with Nana) and if it does, you’ll see me reappear on CSW for sure when it happens!
Random Spring Thoughts
Fate/Zero was awesome. The last group of episodes was done spectacularly and I eagerly await rewatching it from start to finish without that break in the middle or waiting between episodes. Hopefully the price for the Blus will drop eventually because wow, what an aesthetically gorgeous show with such an exorbitant price tag. I truly cannot wait to see what ufotable brings next…to the table. har har. I thought Fate/Stay Night was incredibly mediocre and didn’t expect much going into Fate/Zero, but I’m pleased the other CSW bloggers persuaded me to watch it and I hope any future Fate adaptations are more on par with Zero rather than Stay Night.
E7AO…Ha! I’m still on like episode 6 or 7. I heard Flow did the second OP, so I’ll eventually catch up just for that.
Both Jormungand and Tsuritama I need to finish up, but I have little desire to finish. Accel World and Hyouka were amazing while I was watching them so hopefully I’ll catch up with those eventually. Sakamichi no Apollon’s ending was fantastic and while it wasn’t anime of the decade like many of us hoped, it was still a great show with some awesome music, excellent characters, and overall a fun ride from beginning to end. Hopefully we won’t need to wait so long again for another Watanabe/Kanno collaboration.
Hahaha, what. Not watching any of the summer shows because they all look terrible. I’m sure there might be a gem or two in that mess of a season, but I’ll wait to find out after they’ve finished.
Persona 4 True Ending is just around the corner. My body is ready.
Bakuman S3 God. My. Oh. Nanamine time! YEAH BABY!
K. If you haven’t seen the trailer for it, look it up now. Looks fantastic and hopefully it’ll have some substance to go along with that slick, amazing style the trailer is showing.
Hayate no Gotoku Reboot is probably going to be one of the greatest hit-or-misses of the Fall season. A ton of fans, myself included, were raging when we heard that manglobe would be taking over and starting over from square one instead of just continuing from where Season 2 left off, especially with one of the fanbase’s favorite characters’ about to appear. If that wasn’t enough of a kick to the nads, they’re changing the animation style and now everyone (particularly Hayate) looks like they’re wearing giant wigs instead of having hair attached to their heads. The most recent trailers aren’t as bad as most of us feared, but I and many other fans are still extremely skeptical. In the end, more Hayate is always good and I’ll definitely check it out, but jeez, why couldn’t we just get a normal third season continuation? Ugh.
Little Busters is something I’ve heard a lot of people (especially Megs) talking about and how J.C. is going to completely screw it up. I think I’ll make a conscious effort to watch this show over everything else just to take part in the drama and butthurt that may result. I look forward to the delicious delicious rage and tears.
But despite how good Fall looks right now, I probably won’t have time for anything. Zetsuboushita!
Wrap Up Time
While the temptation to keep rambling on about other random topics such as Harry Potter World, the corporate situation and future of Best Buy, LeBron James epic year, and what the hell someone would do with the $305 million powerball jackpot, I must begin wrapping things up. If there is one last group that deserves thanks, it has to be the readers for your contributions and for taking the time to read and be part of this site. It has been an honor and a pleasure to be part of this website, the podcasts, and above all the blogging crew that Jubbz has Avengersesquely assembled.
I’m totally copyrighting the term “Avengersesquely” posthaste.
That said, thank you everyone for all your contributions to this site and for making CSW such a rewarding experience. I wish everyone the best of luck on their endeavors and if anyone is heading to the Washington D.C./North Virginia area, hit me up. I’ll make some time somehow and take you around town or have a drink with ya…with a HAPPY ENDING. Ciao!
