Kokoro Connect 4: The Most Heinous Crime of All Time
August 1, 2012 in Kokoro Connect
In the latest episode of Kokoro Connect, Taichi fancies himself a selfless hero of the girls as he is still in recovery from his own nutcracker move. However, when Inaba and Iori have their own fair share of problems they present to Taichi, is he able to cure their problems without making them fall in love with him? Turn the page and see.
It turns out that Inaba collapsing in the last episode wasn’t too big of a deal, so this allows more time for Inaba and Iori to probe Taichi on what he did with Yui the other night (or rather what she did to him, or rather what he did to himself). Probing doesn’t work the other way though, as Iori isn’t pleased when Inaba tells Taichi to cure Iori’s problem.
It turns out that Iori’s got 5 dads at different points in time, but because his 2nd father was Chris Brown, she had to completely change her personality to appease him. She did this throughout all of her other fathers until her last father told her on his deathbed to be herself. However, she is having a hard time trying to differentiate from her personalities and fears that she may forget who she really is.
This is an easy fix for Taichi though as he says that he will just promise that he won’t mistake her for her other personalities ever. Though there is a lingering thought of loving her in the back of his mind, he opts not to drop the love bomb and instead hopes that simply saying he’ll promise to find her will suffice. And it does.
The next day, Inaba starts puking in the toilet and pretends nothing is wrong. However, when she ends up slipping and mentions not being ok, Taichi opens up Pandora’s box and probes Inaba to confess what her main problem is. Inaba comes clean and says that she is scared of her friends doing weird shit with her body and that she doesn’t trust anyone. There’s nothing tragic stemming from this, but rather she’s just scared of everyone even though she doesn’t want to be.
While Dr. Taichi doesn’t have a prognosis for her issues, he breaks the ice with by far one of the worst things you could tell someone to her face.
Inaba laughs it off all the while lashing out at him for being a massive pervert and then laughing it off again as Taichi’s doofiness has restored her happiness. By the time everyone leaves, Inaba has one last revelation to make before the credits roll and tells Taichi what he means to her.
Overall, I’ve gotta say that the series is headed towards a fascinating direction with Iori’s backstory being fleshed out and Inaba’s lack of trust towards her own friends coming out in the open. It’s the development like this that makes me feel optimistic that future events will give us a gravitational pull towards the characters when they really start getting into trouble with their body switching. However, Taichi is still going to take some getting used to because of all the friends in the group, he’s supposed to be the main one and yet he’s still bland and his only noticeable trait is being selfless to the point of having all the girls want his D (personally, I’m rooting for Inaba). Despite this, I have confidence that with the execution that the other girls’ personalities and stories are getting that by the end of the show, all of the friends will grow on me, especially with this upcoming episode focusing on high tension building jumping.

………………….

I thought Inaba’s issues were pretty weak with him stating he’s masturbated to her and the other girls makes up for it.
They did speed through Inaba’s problem when something like “not trusting the world” wouldn’t be fixed with something that easy. Then again, she had no reason to not trust the world so an easy fix was probably all he needed for her to snap out of it.
I think Taichi’s willingness to *actively* *sacrifice* himself in order *help others* a little disturbing. Maybe it’s just like Inaba had pointed out, that may not be necessary the best course of action. I feel that if he’s not careful about his approach it will eventually snowball and backfire on him, judging from the preview. Not only the infamous “Jump!” scene, but also Inaba’s voice saying “Egotistical Freak!”
Maxing out Izanagi is the worst idea. Even if it is end-game Izanagi.
Mara is always good, though.
I could really like this show if it gives major crisis and then just laughs them off. A show that doesn’t take itself seriously is a show I can like, usually, especially if it isn’t a comedy.
