I’m still not sure what to make of the DeSu 2 anime
Okay, so, lately, I’m not sure what to make of this DeSu 2 adaptation, other than the director’s own run of the game. Yet, the pacing is… everywhere.
It’s everywhere, yet somehow, it works as a means to develop the MC (Hibiki Kuze) as a character.
But what’s so different now?
First, if there’s one thing I actually like about the Adaptation, are the Septentriones. The friggin bosses of the game.
In the game, there were limitations and such so you couldn’t see their true destructive power. Like Dubhe, even though that one went down fairly quick, Merak was a whole other story. Seriously, Merak killed hundreds of people, especially with that GIANT LASER BEAM known as Circumpolarity in the game, which in fact, does a devastating amount of damage to any poor schmuck in the way.
And then Hinako nearly got killed, but I knew she’d live. She’s needed to summon Shiva! (We’ll get to my gripe about that later)
After Merak gets killed, Hibiki’s practically angsting about all the people who died due to Yamato’s plans, and goes with Ronaldo. I know, people hate it when characters angst, but I don’t mind Hibiki doing it here, as it actually makes me sympathize with him more as a character.
Then there’s Pheceda, which can fire laser beams now apparently. Daichi, Io, and even Yamato get a death clip (a totally lame one by the way) of Hibiki getting killed by Pheceda, which is averted by Yamato’s intervention. From there, the truth is revealed to the entire cast about the Septentriones and alla that by the Anguished One. Too bad he ain’t using that Al Saiduq alias this time; He’s flat out telling them that he’s Alcor, a septentrione!
And then there’s Megrez… A giant spiky ball not fought at the port of each city, but inside the city! Surprisingly, Yamato actually participates in the fight alone. However, the fight ends with Ronaldo, Joe, and Otome getting blown up!
WHY. WHY DID THEY KILL OFF ALL THREE SO QUICK?! Especially Ronaldo! In the games, he’s supposed to be around during Day seven! So much for the possibility of an Egalitarian ending…
And then we get Alioth, who goes down the instant the Shiva-Kama legend is reeinacted. What happened to Kama’s obsession with Airi’s cute bellybutton!? He got reduced to a wordless demon! Shiva too!
At the rate things are going, I can already see who’s gonna die next. I’m certain Jungo’s gonna die, and I know for certain that Io’s gonna die too. Yamato’s gonna be the last to die.
Yeah, maybe we’re getting the Kingmaker ending in this anime. I kinda hope so, with the way things are shaping up. Especially having some fun moments with Alcor trying to walk. That’s the only entertaining thing bout this anime so far to be honest…
I’m just miffed they killed off Joe so soon.
